Der Workshop richtet sich an angehende und professionelle Theaterleute, die gerne mehr über ihr komisches Talent erfahren möchten. In diesem fünftägigen Kurs unter der Leitung von Toby Park, Co-Direktor von Spymonkey, wirst du mit vollem Einsatz von Körper und Stimme in das weite Spektrum der Unterhaltungskunst eintauchen. Dabei spielt die Individualität eine grosse Rolle, inklusive das unausweichliche Scheitern, um an die Quelle der Komik zu gelangen. 

ÜBER DEN KURS

Was macht dich als Performer:in einzigartig – und wie bringst du genau diese verrückte, geniale Seite so auf die Bühne, so dass sich dein Publikum vor Lachen kugelt?

Im fünftägigen Essentials of Comedy Workshop geht’s genau darum: Wir finden gemeinsam heraus, was dich als Comedian besonders macht – und bauen das weiter aus.

Du bekommst den Raum und die Unterstützung, deine Comedy-Skills in einer sicheren, lockeren und humorvollen Atmosphäre auszuprobieren. Toby wird dir dabei helfen, deinen Impulsen zu vertrauen, mutig neue Sachen auszuprobieren und dabei ehrlich, grosszügig und einfach du selbst zu sein.

Besonders spannend: Toby liebt es, Musik als Comedy-Tool zu nutzen. Also checken wir auch aus, wie Gesang, Tanz und Beats uns zu völlig neuen, unerwarteten Comedy-Momenten führen können.

Der Workshop wird in englischer und deutscher Sprache abgehalten.

ÜBER SPYMONKEY

Spymonkey wurde 1996 nach einer Produktion von Karl’s kühne Gassenschau gegründet. Toby Park hat mit seinem preisgekrönten Ensemble die ganze Welt bereist, vom Edinburgh Festival bis zum Cirque du Soleil Las Vegas, vom Sydney Opera House bis zum Just For Laughs Montreal. Ursprünglich stark von Clown-Guru Philippe Gaulier inspiriert, haben sich ihr “Theatre of the Funny” im Laufe der Jahre zu einer höchst unterhaltsamen Kunstform entwickelt. Spymonkey gelten als weltweite Experten auf dem Gebiet des Physical Comedy Theatre. Aitor Basauri und Toby Park inszenieren mittlerweile auch Opern, Horrortheater und Musiktheater. Ihre Interpretation von „Orpheus in der Unterwelt“ an der Volksoper Wien wurde mit dem Österreichischen Musiktheaterpreis 2023 ausgezeichnet. Ihre Workshops in LA, New York, London und Bilbao sind regelmässig ausverkauft.

The workshop is aimed at aspiring and professional theatre practitioners who would like to learn more about their comic talent. In this five-day course led by Toby Park, co-director of Spymonkey, you will immerse yourself in the wide spectrum of entertainment art, using your body and voice to the fullest. Individuality plays a major role, including the inevitable failure, in order to get to the source of comedy.

ABOUT SPYMONKEY

Spymonkey was founded in 1996 after a production of Karl’s kühne Gassenschau. Toby Park has travelled the world with his award-winning ensemble, from the Edinburgh Festival to Cirque du Soleil Las Vegas, from the Sydney Opera House to Just For Laughs Montreal. Originally heavily inspired by Philippe Gaulier, particularly the concepts of Le Jeu and Clown, their shows have evolved over the years into a highly entertaining art form. ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

What is it that makes you as a performer uniquely funny? How do you share that brilliant, special ridiculousness with an audience so that they are helpless with laughter? 

In this 5-day introduction to Spymonkey Clown we will focus on how to identify and develop that particular quality of Funny that is special to you, and only you. 

You will be supported to develop these comedic skills in a safe, fun and laughter-filled environment. This positive group dynamic will allow you focus on identifying and trusting your best impulses, taking risks, being adventurous, generous and honest as a performer. In this highly enjoyable workshop we will play games and exercises, developing trust and complicity with the group. You will find the pleasure in your own ridiculousness, stay optimistic, discover your comedy gold, and get ready to laugh until your face hurts. 

We will share many of the methods that Spymonkey have found essential over the years in creating Theatre of the Funny: physical games, improvisational games, status exercises, physical comedy routines, chorus exercises and parody. Toby particularly enjoys using music as a source of comedic inspiration, so we will also look at how song, dance and musicality can lead us to new and unexpected comedic territory.

The workshop will be led in English and German.
