Online workshops and webinars for the Autumn

Spymonkey are excited to offer a third series of affordable training workshops and webinars covering areas of finance, producing and marketing, alongside sessions delving into the creative process behind our work. This new series of online workshops and webinars is available to book throughout September and October.

As before, with the knowledge that most theatre-makers operate on a freelance basis we have set a scale of fees for each workshop session and would ask you to consider which bracket you can reasonable afford. All income made from these training sessions goes directly to covering the costs of keeping Spymonkey going while we’re unable to make work or run our training in person.

Workshops fee pricing brackets (see description for each workshop length)

£12/ £15 / £20 per 90min session

£35 / £50 / £70 per 4 hour session

Bursary places

We will build on our Brassmonkey Bursary scheme by offering 10% of spaces on this workshop programme free of charge to BAME or Disabled Artists. These sessions will be offered on a first-come first-served basis by contacting Natasha Britton on natasha@spymonkey.co.uk with details of which sessions you’d like to attend.

Free sessions for BAME artists – If you are a BAME theatre-maker and particularly interested in making physical comedy theatre we’d like to hear from you.

Free sessions for Disabled artists – If you are a theatre-maker with disabilities and particularly interested in making physical comedy theatre we’d like to hear from you. If you have access needs, please let us know so that we can address these and best support you to engage with the sessions.

How to kill a Classic

Thurs 17th Sept 4pm (UK time)

With Artistic Directors Toby Park and Aitor Basauri

What are the steps that we use when adapting great works of art, to create comedy brilliance on the stage? Much of our work has taken as its starting point ‘classic’ works, whether that be a work of literature such as Moby Dick or A Christmas Carol, or the archetypal classical tragedy Oedipus Rex. Other work comes about through genre-bending mash-ups between entirely inappropriate artforms – who ever imagined classical ballet and naked pole dancing working so effectively in the same cabaret number for example? Artistic Directors Toby Park and Aitor Basauri lead us through Spymonkey’s unique approach to adaptation.
